During every gun rush, it always goes through my head the amount of things I should have bought while I could have gotten them. There’s a number of things that are trickling back into stock so it’s never a bad idea to stock up on things you need before products either become tough to find or elevated in price. Let’s take a look at a few guns and gear to buy now rather than later since they are getting back into stock.
Magazines
Every single time there is any push about an assault weapons ban or some sort of gun control, magazines are typically the first to go out of stock. Popular along with quality magazines are almost immediately out of stock whenever this happens which means typically all that is left is sub par magazines for an inflated price. Currently many of the larger distributors have deals on magazines with most quality options in stock as well as on sale.
GunMag Warehouse for example is having a sale on both SureFeed magazines as well as Magpul magazines. Brownells is also currently offering deals on certain magazines. Rather than rushing to find more magazines, it’s not a bad idea to pick up a few every couple weeks or even every month to break the cost up so it’s more manageable. Most companies currently have bulk options which will offer a larger quantity of magazines for a discounted price as well. This is by far the best way to buy magazines if you can afford to buy them in bulk. During a rush, these magazines can sometimes be 2-3 times the price as what they are currently so it’s never a bad idea to hop on deals now while they are plentiful.
Used Rifles/Handguns
During 2020 with COVID and political instability, there were a record number of firearms sold to first-time gun owners. Some of those firearms that were sold during the crazy times of 2020 are now starting to show up in the used sections of gun stores. When the record sales were occurring, I first said it would take around 2 years to go into full effect of people selling off the firearms they bought during the instability. It looks like that trend is already starting to become true with used handguns and rifles coming back into shops for decent deals once again.
For the last two years, the used market has been really tough since most used counters were cleaned out right away in early 2020 without recovering since demand was so high. In the last month or two, I have started to see some popular models of Glocks and entry level ARs come back into the used market for decent prices so I think we are starting to get into a great time to buy used firearms if that’s something you enjoy.
Bulk Ammo
It may be a bit early for bulk ammo purchases, but prices are starting to come down so it’s a promising future for ammo prices. Last year, ammunition was at an all time high and certain ammo types were 3-4 times higher than standard prices. Ammo is still a higher price than it was back in 2019 but pricers are on their downward trend. A couple months ago, I picked up 1500 rounds of 115gr remanufactured 9mm ammunition from LAX Ammunition for $499.99 which worked out to be roughly 33 cents a round.
This would have been insanely high for 9mm two years ago but currently, it’s not a bad price. Some of you will be angry at for sharing the secret, but certain websites like AmmoSeek are a great option to find the best deals on whatever ammunition you need. I went to AmmoSeek when I was looking for more 9mm ammo for the SIG Legion RXP review as well as ammo for my hunting trip coming up. It may not be a perfect solution to finding ammo, but it’s definitely a helpful tool when you’re looking for ammo deals in this market.
Attachments And Parts
End of the year sales are a great way to pick up the small things you may need to complete a project gun or just want to switch things up whether it’s an aftermarket trigger, stripped AR lower receivers or any components you may want to pick up. With the material shortage in full swing, certain items are still tough to find in stock but parts like stripped receivers are available and some have even been posted up on holiday sale pages.
There are certain parts that have been out of stock for awhile, and items like stripped AR lower receivers are starting to become available for a reasonable price once again. Stripped lower receiver are another item that immediately sells out when there are gun scares or runs on various items so it’s never a bad idea to grab one if you plan on building a rifle yourself.
Overall Thoughts
It’s easy to fall into the trap of being comfortable when certain items are in stock or even on sale. The “I’ll buy it later” mentality is an easy one to adopt when life is stressful and theres other obligations in daily life. It’s only when things are scarce and being bought up by panic buyers, that we begin to kick ourselves for waiting so long. While the market is stable and full with inventory, it’s never a bad idea to grab small things like quality magazines or used firearms when the prices are good. Are there other items you should buy before there’s another push for various items in the market? Let me know what you typically stock up on when things are good down in the comments below.
