Welcome everyone to the 157th edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or only has a Fudd appeal? Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.
In our last edition, our poll showed that you, the readers, decided the Federal Engineering XC 220 was fudd crap.
At this time the original auction remains up with zero bids on the retro takedown .22LR. We at TFB can only hope this retro gat can find its way to a new home in the very near future.
In this week’s edition of HGFC, we look at a Liberty Arms SP-50 chambered in .50 BMG. As is tradition, this bullpup blaster is currently up for sale on GunBroker for $2,599.99 Starting Bid or $2,699.99 Buy It Now.
HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP?
50 BMG Bullpup Blaster or Imminent Disaster?
Let’s see what the Staff had to say about this week’s offering:
Why does it look like the Steyr ACR? How many multiplex rounds can you stack in a .50 BMG case?” – Hop
“Free TBI with every 10 rounds fired” – Rusty S.
”Is it useful or practical? No. Does it look good? Also no. Can you autistically meme it? Absolutely, and therefore – it’ll sell. – Will P.
“The prison shank of fifty cals at a contraband pack of Newports price. Hot gat.” – James Reeves
“Royal Nonesuch is getting more aesthetic with his builds”- Nick C.
Selling this BMG chambered bullpup gat is GunBroker seller WEST PLAINS PAWN, located in West Plains MO. Let’s see what they had to say about this single-shot bullpup.

There are two bullpup .50 BMGs on the planet that I trust, and those are the Barrett M99 and M95. Over the years, “budget” .50 BMG rifles and AR conversions have become more and more popular. Most of the time this is a good thing, but .50 BMG is a totally different animal. With that said, this welded (rather than machined) muzzle brake does not inspire confidence.
This design looks like a cross between Maadi Griffin and Steyr AUG with a strange “is that styrofoam?” aesthetic. Normally I’d think the mid-mounted bipod would be a good choice as it allows for more traverse and elevation adjustment. Sadly, I know from experience that a .50 BMG with a mid-mounted bipod will act like a teeter-totter under recoil. Between that, a trigger I’m going to assume is not great, and a homebrew muzzle device. Yeah, that’s a no from me.
While I may not agree with it (simply from a safety perspective), there is a growing market for budget or entry-level .50 BMG rifles. Does this rifle make the cut for a shade under 3k? As always, I leave it up to you, the readers, to decide.
